You can add a Simplesat survey to an Outreach template and send it from your sequences, with nothing to connect first. When Outreach sends the email, it fills in the prospect's details and your own, and each response arrives in Simplesat with them.
Before you start
Adding a survey to Outreach works on every Simplesat plan.
In Simplesat, you need the Manage surveys permission to set a survey's delivery method. Owner and Admin have it by default.
In Outreach, your profile needs the Insert HTML permission. Without it, the button for adding HTML doesn't show. An Outreach admin can turn it on under Administration → Profiles.
Send surveys from Outreach
If you're still choosing how to send a survey, Choosing a survey delivery method compares this with Simplesat's other options.
In Simplesat:
Create or open the survey and choose External email embed.
Under Choose where to add your survey, choose Outreach.
On Publish, click Generate embed code.
Choose HTML and click Copy survey.
In Outreach:
Create a template, or open the one you want the survey in.
Click the HTML button in the editor's toolbar and paste the survey's HTML.
Save the template.
In your sequence, add or open an email step, automatic or manual, and choose the template.
Note: Outreach accepts HTML only in templates and snippets, not in one-off emails.
The survey links carry these Outreach variables:
What the link carries | Outreach variable |
Customer email |
|
Customer first name |
|
Customer last name |
|
Company name |
|
Team member email |
|
Team member first name |
|
Team member last name |
|
Sender's title, saved as the ticket field |
|
Account name, saved as the ticket field |
|
Account industry, saved as the ticket field |
|
Prospect stage, saved as the ticket field |
|
Prospect title, saved as the ticket field |
|
The customer is the prospect. The team member is the Outreach user whose mailbox sends the email. Because the links carry no ticket ID, each click is a new response.
Heads up: Outreach won't send a step's email to a prospect who has no value for one of the template's variables, and the survey links carry every variable in the table. A prospect without a title or a stage, for example, fails on the survey step.
Placeholders and merge fields explains how placeholders work in every tool.
Test it on yourself before a prospect gets it. Add yourself as a prospect to a sequence that sends the template, with every field in the table filled in, and click a rating in the email. The response shows up in Simplesat with your details.
Troubleshooting
Outreach says "Missing template variable" on my survey step
The survey links carry every variable in the table, and Outreach won't send a step's email to a prospect who's missing a value for any of them. Check fields like the prospect's title and stage, the company, the account's industry and the sender's title. Fill in whatever's missing on the prospect, the account or your Outreach profile.
If you'd rather send the survey without those details, set it to Generic Embed instead of Outreach. In its Rating placeholders, type only the Outreach variables all your prospects have, such as {{email}} for the customer's Email address and {{sender.email}} for the team member's Email address. Then generate the code again and replace the HTML in your template.
I can't find the button to add HTML in my Outreach template
Your Outreach profile needs the Insert HTML permission. Ask an Outreach admin to turn it on under Administration → Profiles.
FAQ
Does Simplesat have an Outreach integration?
No. There's no Outreach integration to set up, and you won't find Outreach under Integrations in Simplesat. You add the survey to an Outreach template, and responses show up in Simplesat, not in Outreach.
