With the Simplesat node, an n8n workflow can search your responses and answers, send a survey by email, and create or update customers and team members. Simplesat built and maintains the node, and n8n has verified it. It connects to your Simplesat workspace through the Simplesat API, using an API key.
Before you start
You need a Simplesat API key. To create one, you need the Owner or Admin role, or a custom role with Access API key. API keys management covers creating and managing keys.
Use a Full access key, or a Custom key with Read on Surveys. When you save the credential, n8n checks the key by listing your surveys, so that scope is the minimum. A Custom key also needs the scope for each operation you use.
An n8n instance owner or admin has to install the node. They do it once, and after that everyone on the instance can use it.
API keys come with every Simplesat plan, and the node is free to install.
Add the Simplesat node
In an n8n workflow, open the nodes panel.
Search for Simplesat. Until the node is installed, it's listed under More from the community.
Open it and select Install.
Connect your API key
In Simplesat, go to Admin → API keys, create a key and copy it. Simplesat shows the key only once.
In any Simplesat node in n8n, create a new credential. Its type is Simplesat API.
Paste the key into API Token and save.
n8n reuses the credential for every Simplesat node, so you only connect once. Each key belongs to a single workspace, though. To work with another workspace, create a second credential with that workspace's key.
What the Simplesat node can do
A Full access key works with every operation below. If you use a Custom key, give it the scope in the last column for each operation your workflow uses.
Resource | Operations | Scope a Custom key needs |
Answer | Get, Search | Answers: Read |
Customer | List, Get | Customers: Read |
Customer | Create or Update (by email), Update (by ID) | Customers: Write |
Question | List | Questions: Read |
Response | Get, Search | Responses: Read |
Survey | List | Surveys: Read |
Survey | Send by Email | Responses: Write |
Team Member | Get | Team members: Read |
Team Member | Create or Update | Team members: Write |
Response → Search can filter by created and modified date ranges, as well as other fields. Question → List filters by survey and metric.
Survey → Send by Email sends one of your event-based email surveys, which you pick from a list. Use it when something happens elsewhere in your workflow, like a ticket closing. The customer's email is required. You can also pass:
The customer's name, company and external ID
The team member's ID, email and name
The ticket's ID and subject
Custom attributes for the customer, team member and ticket, as JSON
To learn how event-based email surveys work, see Direct email surveys.
The Simplesat API documentation describes every field for each operation.
Start a workflow when a response arrives
The Simplesat node doesn't have a trigger, so something else has to start the workflow. To run it as responses arrive, start the workflow with an n8n Webhook node. Then go to Integrations → Simplesat Tools in Simplesat, and use one of the options that start with Send data to API endpoint to post responses to the webhook's URL.
You can also run the workflow on a schedule and use Response → Search to find responses created since the last run.
Troubleshooting
I can't find the Simplesat node in n8n
Search for Simplesat in the nodes panel and look under More from the community. Only an instance owner or admin can install the node, so if you're neither, ask one of them to install it. On a self-hosted instance, an admin can also turn verified community nodes off. If the node doesn't show up at all, ask them to check that setting.
n8n won't save my Simplesat credential
Check that you copied the whole key, and that the key still exists on Admin → API keys.
If it's a Custom key, give it Read on Surveys, since n8n uses that scope to check the key. You can also switch to a Full access key.
A Simplesat operation fails with a permission error
With a Custom key, each operation needs its own scope. Find the operation in the table under What the Simplesat node can do, then add that scope to the key on Admin → API keys. The new scope works right away, so you don't need a new credential. You can also switch to a Full access key.
FAQ
Is the n8n node a paid feature?
No. The node is free to install, and every Simplesat plan includes API keys.
Does the node have a trigger for new responses?
No. Start the workflow with an n8n Webhook node and use one of the Send data to API endpoint options on Simplesat Tools. You can also search for new responses on a schedule. Both are covered in Start a workflow when a response arrives.
