What is a 5-star rating?

5-star ratings are 5-point rating scales that allow customers to submit feedback right after specific instances β€” such as availing a service, purchasing a product, or attending an event. This suits a wide audience, since 5-star ratings are easy to understand visually.

This metric uses a scale of 1 to 5, where more stars means better feedback.

Calculating 5-star ratings

The 5-star rating is computed using a mean average: add the total of the star rating values, and divide by the total number of star ratings received.

Example:

You receive 10 star ratings, broken down as follows:

  • 3 are ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • 4 are ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • 1 are ⭐⭐⭐

  • 0 are ⭐⭐

  • 2 are ⭐

So that is:

  • 3 x 5 ⭐= 15

  • 4 x 4 ⭐= 16

  • 1 x 3 ⭐= 3

  • 0 x 2 ⭐= 0

  • 2 x 1 ⭐= 2

15 + 16 + 3 + 0 + 2 = 36 total stars ⭐

36 total stars, divided by 10 ratings = 3.6
